Dziwoki was cleared for VNL championship division action early this week.
This will be Dziwoki’s third game for ACU Sovereigns, who resume competition a fortnight after their breakthrough win in championship division.
Dziwoki and captain Cynna Kydd were both sharp under the ring in victory, each shooting at more than 80 per cent accuracy.
Sovereigns assistant coach Kate McMahon said Dziwoki – and her experience – was a great part of the Sovereigns’ attack.
“That first game we had Carla, we didn’t play that well with her but we’ve worked out her movement and speed and how to marry them up with us,” McMahon said. “Full credit to our team, they’ve applied what we’ve learned from her.
“We’re extremely positive going into this match, but we’re also aware that this team is top of the ladder. At least we know now, from our win, we can match it against a top-four team (DC North East Blaze).”
Sovereigns have a full squad for rotations.
McMahon said the break from competition last week had been great for players nursing niggling injuries.
It had also allowed players to enjoy their newfound winning feeling a little longer.
Sovereigns kept their training intensity up with a full practice match in Ballarat last Wednesday night – three quarters against the Sovereigns’ division one team and one quarter against the Ballarat Football League’s regional state league team, which boasts some former VNL championship division players.
This round’s match against the Falcons is also a key measure in the Sovereigns’ improve-
ment. When they last met, the Falcons spoilt Sovereigns’ first home game by 38 goals.
“That was an intense day with a lot of hype around the game,” McMahon said. “I don’t think the girls handled the hype and excitement around our first home game all that well, but they’ve learned a lot and improved a lot since then – that was early in the season.”
There are six rounds remaining in the VNL season, including a Sovereigns trip to Geelong.
Sovereigns’ 19/under team resumes competition ranked fourth and playing to keep a spot in finals.
