The Barkly Street property, featuring a land area of 2000 square-metres and 18 rooms, has been listed with Caine Real Estate for $820,000.
Berry Street moved its Grampians headquarters from Ballarat to Federation University Australia’s Mount Helen campus in March.
The weatherboard building was originally constructed in 1900 (Victorian era) and became the community organisation’s main office in the region after its merger with Lisa Lodge in 2012.
In its early days the building was once used as a rooming house.
Berry Street Grampians director Steve Johnson said the decision to move to its new site in Mount Helen reflected the organisation’s growth in the region.
“It’s a wonderful building that has served us well, but since extending our range of services and programs, it is no longer fit for purpose,” Mr Johnson said.
“Our move to Mount Helen has given us much-needed space so we can deliver even more support to vulnerable children and families in the region.”
Mr Johnson said proceeds from the sale of the building would support and expand Berry Street’s programs and services in the Grampians.
According to the Caine Real Estate website, property features include three sitting areas, two bathrooms, a number of entrances and beautiful verandas.
Berry Street is Victoria’s largest independent child and family services organisation.
It offers crisis support, accommodation, counselling services for young people, foster and residential care for vulnerable children and accommodation for women and children escaping family violence.
Berry Street Ballarat has about 140 young people in foster and residential care or within its case management. It has 25 foster carers on its books.
