The Vikings conceded three goals in the opening 20 minutes against Brimbank Stallions, making any sort of comeback almost impossible.
To its credit, Sebastopol fought back to actually peg back the score to 3-2 at half time goals thanks goals from Will Gergiou and Scott Berg (penalty kick). However, that was where the scoring finished for the day, as Brimbank came out with a defensive mindset in the second half and thwarted any Sebastopol attempts on goal.
The result leaves the Vikings three points off second spot, with a 10-goal inferior goal difference to Melbourne City. Coach Michael Busija concedes it is virtually impossible for his side to catch up with just one round remaining, but was buoyant by his side’s overall performance for the year.
“We’ve exceeded our minimum expectations and that was to improve on last year and finish in the top half,” he said.
