THE former Kingston Primary School will go under the hammer next month.
The historic 1.08 hectare school site, between Ballarat and Daylesford, will be sold at auction on October 20.
After 142 years of education, the primary school closed its doors on December 13 in 2004, due to low enrolment numbers.
The property features the original solid brick school building along with extra classrooms, a toilet block and shedding.
Ballarat Real Estate will auction the property for the State Government.
Ballarat Real Estate consultant Allister Morrison said the landmark site would attract widespread interest.
Another government site will also be auctioned on the same day.
Ballarat Real Estate will sell a 1.308 hectare block of land in Mt Helen, bounded by Boak Ave and Yarana Dve, originally bought in case another school was needed.
The real estate company also sold the former Ewing House School for the Deaf in Gregory St, with a price tag of about $1 million.
"We will again be working hard to achieve the best possible result for the Kingston Primary School," Mr Morrison said.
"It would be fantastic to have some of the ex-teachers and students come along on auction day and perhaps relive some of their memories," he said.
"This history of the school is very interesting and I imagine there would be many stories that could be told.
"When we sold the Ewing House for the Deaf this was certainly the case."
