Dr Jacob Jolij, from the University of Groningen, worked out a "special" mathematical formula to assesses the ‘feelgood-y factor’.
You examine its lyrics (L), the tempo in beats per minute (BPM) and its key (K). It looks like this, according to the good doctor:
Dr Jolij reportedly applied the formula to only 126 songs and listened to feedback from music listeners. So in terms of scientific viability, as it was a pretty limited scientific test,it may be limited.
Dr Jolij recognises that people’s reactions to music are still subjective.
“A feel good song is very personal,” he is reported as saying. “Music is intimately linked with memory and emotion, and these associations strongly determine whether a song will put you in a good mood or not.
