THE diverse range of terrain in and around Ballarat has been praised following a successful 2015 Australian Orienteering Championships.
Mark Valentine, chair of the organising committee for the titles, said the standards that were set in Ballarat were “very, very good” throughout the week-long event.
“It was fantastic for Ballarat and for the Eureka club, who provided a lot of the key people into the event - the organisational side of it,” Valentine said.
“It shows that the skills of the people here can put on a really classy event."
The carnival began on Saturday, September 26 and came to a close with competition near Elaine on Sunday. This followed events in Chapel Flat – near Creswick – on Saturday.
"This area has lent itself very well to the carnival because of the variety that they can get within 40km of Ballarat,” Valentine said.
Close to 1000 entries were taken for the championships – the third hosted in the Ballarat region – which are now bound for Queensland in 2016.
