It’s all part of their Fancy Nancy’s Kitchen Tea event which will be held during the city’s most popular food event next month.
Little Bird cafe co-owner Jill Bingham said the idea to host the 1950’s inspired “kitchen tea” was based around a common occurrence in an Australian home more than 50 years ago when women would come together in one another’s kitchen and bring along a plate of food.
She said many of the recipes chosen for the high tea style event would represent desserts, savories and cakes often made by everyone’s nannas, nonnas and grandmas.
“It’s going to be a buffet style afternoon tea with punch, sweets, savouries and hot food,” she said.
“They will be nice and fresh, just like nanna’s would always be.”
Completely different from the formal style high tea, Ms Bingham said the event was primarily a chance to relax with a group of friends or family.
“It’s meant to be a fun event, not to be taken too seriously,” she said.
She also hinted the possibility of Fancy Nancy also making an appearance on the day.
This will be the first year Little Bird has taken part in The Courier’s Good Food Ballarat, something Ms Bingham is excited about.
“I think it’s another good thing for Ballarat … there are some really good things for people to come up and visit Ballarat for,” she said.
Fancy Nancy’s Kitchen Tea will kick off at 3.30pm on Saturday, November 7 at Little Bird cafe, 205 Sturt Street.
