But the owners of the city’s newest restaurant are set to take it one step further.
And local foodies will get a taste of what’s to come from Aureate Restaurant as part of Good Food Ballarat.
Talking about the new restaurant, owner Mark Finch said Aureate, which is located at Mid City on Doveton Street, would give Ballarat a new dining experience.
“In the past this (restaurant space) has been a masculine steak house, we never had groups of women come in and dine … but we’re turning that on its head,” he said.
“We would like to bring a bit of Melbourne to Ballarat.”
And a new-look restaurant wouldn’t be without a new-taste menu.
Head chef Ryan Pearce has turned the masculine menu into primarily a selection of French and Italian inspired dishes.
“We don’t want to put meals on the list we don’t love … the new menu is about breadth of choice,” Pearce said.
“Ballarat deserves to be exposed to quality food from everywhere, we’re going to be bringing a range and quality of food to Ballarat they’ve never seen before.”
While the restaurant won’t be fully unveiled until 2016, October 31 will be a chance for locals to get a glimpse of what to expect from the new menu.
Describing the event as a seafood degustation, Mr Pearce said guests will be exposed to the best produce from around the world, including a selection of oysters, charred crustaceans and smoked Ocean trout.
He also said each of the six meals served on the night will be paired with a hand selected wine. And as for those who question whether a restaurant 100km inland can bring seafood to a table well, Mr Peace said that mould was about to be broken.
“This will be a real adventure … we want to expose Ballarat to the best of everything,” he said.
Aureate Restaurant will be launched on October 31 from 6pm at Ballarat Mid City, 19 Doveton Street North.
