The Shorter Brothers Auction will take place at St Patrick’s Hall from 7pm.
It will raise proceeds and awareness for three local brothers, Max, William and Hudson, who have been diagnosed with the incurable Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Max and William Shorter were both diagnosed with the condition in December of 2013, and in April this year the Shorter’s learned their youngest son Hudson also had DMD.
The progressive neuro-muscular disease destroys muscle tissue and will leave the boys in wheelchairs by age 12.
The Ballarat community has rallied brilliantly for the cause this year, with the family understandably gobsmacked by the response.
“One of their (parents Leigh and Belinda) dreams was to take the whole family to Disneyland, which is now a possibility,” the brothers’ grandmother Susan said.
“It’s just been fantastic.
“Thank you to all the Ballarat and district business who have given to the auction.”
The auction will feature dozens of quality items, with a door prize for a night stay at Melbourne’s Crown Casino also up for grabs.
Popular items for auction include a pizza oven, Daylesford accommodation package, a one-week stay at an Ocean Grove holiday house, a $350 Peace and Quiet voucher, galvanised trailer with stock crate, framed and signed Rabbitos jersey and other sporting memorabilia including signed jumpers, footballs and posters from AFL clubs Hawthorn, Geelong and the Western Bulldogs, plus more.
Community groups have rallied behind the family’s cause this year, with Central Highlands Football League clubs Buninyong and Gordon, and Grill’d hamburger restaurant three of many bodies to show their support over the course of the year.
Other items include a weekend away in a Torquay beach house, Vida Pearson original art work, mountain bike, various beauty packages, dining vouchers, a selection of wines and Christmas hampers.
Tickets for the night are $10. For more information, contact the ‘Shorter Brothers’ Facebook or send an email to the Shorterbros@gmail.com address or call Susan on 0409 428 725 or Lorraine on (03) 53 428 448.
