Imported young stayer Master Zephyr ($2.20 favourite) made it two wins from three Australian starts in the Slickpix Handicap, 2500m, at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
And he did it with ease, dashing away by more than four lengths after jockey Dwayne Dunn put him the race.
While a four-year-old, what enhances the lightly raced international as a bright prospect is that by northern hemisphere breeding he is still a three-year-old.
Master Zephyr joined the Melbourne Cup-winning Ballarat trainer’s stable via English trainer Roger Charlton and French horseman Antoine de Watrigant
The gelding came to Australia with de Waitrigant with stablemare Gailo Chop, which won the group 1 Mackinnon Stakes on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Master Zephyr had one run for the Frenchman before being transferred by OTI Racing to Weir, with which he is unbeaten.
Weir is unsure whether to race on with Master Zephyr this preparation, saying it was difficult to turn out a horse which was going so well.
Weir rounded out the spring with a Moonee Valley double, with Kracken ($8) making it three wins in 10 career starts in the Strathmore FC 2005 Premiers Handicap, 1500m.
The double took Weir to 99 wins in Victoria for season. He brought up his 100th at Swan Hill on Sunday.
