The Delacombe resident, who has three children, has been promised presents, vouchers and cash from people keen to help her get through Christmas.
Ms Bayer said the help would a long way.
“I’m really happy with the response,” she said.
Merv Gay, from Junortoun near Bendigo, saw the story on Saturday by chance while in Melton and wanted to give Ms Bayer some money as a gesture of support.
“It touched me a little bit. I just wanted to make sure she knows there are some nice people in the world,” he said.
Ray Weinberg from Buninyong said he was donating to Ms Bayer because he knew the importance of being able to put on a family Christmas.
“We’ll be all together for Christmas dinner. I would like her to be in the same situation,” he said.
Mr Weinberg was shocked at the robbery, which saw an intruder or intruders steal $100 from Ms Bayer’s house while she was picking up her daughter from school.
“I don’t understand people that do that to others; a lady who is a single mother, to break in,” he said.
Margaret Korosec gave Ms Bayer a whole swag of presents for the kids on Saturday.
"I saw the story in the paper and I felt very sorry for them,” she said.
"I thought I just had to given them something."
The Goodstart childcare centre, which one of Ms Bayer’s children attended, is also helping out collecting toys and other items for the family.
Director Beth Matheson said Christmas was the worst time for a robbery like this to happen.
"I just think it is a bad time of year, it’s so close to Christmas, and every child deserves to have a Christmas,” she said.
"It is just a way we can get things together.”
The Goodstart centre is open from Monday to Thursday, 6am to 6pm, at 904 Glenelg Highway, Delacombe.
