GOLDEN Point’s stunning form with the bat rolled on thanks to another brilliant performance against East Ballarat on Saturday.
Centuries from captain Josh White and overseas import Saman Jayantha provided the foundations for the Pointies to reach 4-393 during day one of the clash with the Hawks.
White notched up his second ton of the campaign, with his unbeaten 149 coming from 242 balls and during a mammoth 239-minute stay at the crease.
He and Jayantha combined for a 185-run fourth-wicket partnership, with the Sri Lankan making 109 from 119 balls.
Like White, it was Jayantha’s second century of the season.
The pair’s efforts allowed Simon Ogilvie (49 from 50 balls) and Daniel White (44 not out from 39 balls) to go in search of quick runs, with the Pointies batting out the entire 80 overs for the loss of just four wickets.
There was no Hawks bowler that would have been thrilled with his performance as captain Brad Whittaker called on eight different players – including himself – in the search of a breakthrough.
Oli Hayes, Josh Brown, Simon Irving and Adam Ranson were the four bowlers to snare a wicket each.
In a season to remember with the bat, Saturday was the fifth time Golden Point has posted a total in excess of 300.
The Pointies made scores of 4-352 (round one), 6-465 (round two), 4-385 (round four) and 4-345 (round seven) leading into Saturday’s display.
This has the team clearly the most prolific with the bat this season.
Golden Point has amassed a whopping 2221 runs during 2015-16, with just 44 wickets equating to an average score of 50.48 per batsman.
Wendouree is the next most prolific with 1647 runs coming at an average of 27.91.
The Pointies are currently second on the Ballarat Cricket Association firsts ladder, just two points behind leaders Mt Clear.
And with victory likely in this round 10 clash, they can start thinking about their blockbuster encounter with the Mounties, which is up next.
Golden Point will then meet Brown Hill and then Darley in a tough finish to the home and away campaign.
