Marsha Gallagher had never seen a flower on the plain cactus until a few weeks ago, when a small yellow flower bloomed. Then last week she woke up to find a 20 foot stalk with more than a dozen bright yellow flower heads.
“I have not seen anything like this before,” Ms Gallagher said. “I’m excited, my husband is excited and he doesn’t get excited by much.”
Ms Gallagher said her son found the seed for the cactus in a paddock 12 years ago and “stuck it in the ground”. “It hasn’t been attended to – without the flower it’s five foot tall.” Ms Gallagher hopes the flower stays and isn’t a one-off miracle.
