Some of Ballarat’s biggest names were present at the official opening of Sebastopol Bowling Club’s newly-constructed dome.

Approximately 100 people attended the event, including City of Ballarat mayor Des Hudson, Ballarat MP Catherine King and Buninyong State MP Geoff Howard.
The dome, which cost over a million dollars and was fully self-funded by Sebastopol, allows for bowls to be played in any weather conditions.
Trevor Scott from Light Weight Structures, the company responsible for the construction of the dome, revealed the special fabric used was actually a first for any bowling club in Australia.
Graeme Blow from Tiger Turf also spoke at the event, providing an insight into how the new woven Scottish carpet would have a longer life than other greens due to improved UV protection.
The official ribbon was cut by club patrons Doug Higgins and Peter Innes.
Innes said the new dome would allow the club to raise more funds to put back into the community and contribute to worthwhile causes.
