Defying all the odds, there’s still one thing he is sure about – he is not ready to die.
Diagnosed with AL amyloidosis and multiple myeloma, the terminally ill man has spent most of the last year in and out of hospital. He is one of only six people diagnosed with the disease in Australia over the last year.
What he has missed during this time is the chance to fish.
But a group of avid fisherman from Victoria Trout and Redfin Fishing and Victoria Inland Charters heard about Alan’s story and wanted to help grant his wish.
On Saturday they helped Alan tick fishing off his bucket list at Lake Wendouree.
“It’s so overwhelming. I didn’t ask for this, but they’ve gone out on their own back,” he said. This is the first time Alan has had the chance to go fishing since receiving his diagnosis in May, and he is now hoping it will be the beginning of many new fishing adventures.
“I’m too young with too much to do,” he said.
