Well-known for his support of the farming industry, Mr Sheedy will shed light on his vision for rural Australia at the event, which celebrates Victoria’s $12 billion agricultural industry, showcasing locally grown produce and the people who produce it.
Rural issues are a cause close to Mr Sheedy’s heart as a result of his travels across regional Australia with AFL over the past 50 years.
This experience opened his eyes to the hardships faced by farmers and small town communities, inspiring his current mission to bridge the gap between major cities and farming groups.
“We need to ask the question, ‘How can we help each other?’” said Mr Sheedy.
We need to ask the question, ‘How can we help each other?’ The agriculture industry is the backbone of our nation – it’s what keeps us going.

“The agriculture industry is the backbone of our nation – it’s what keeps us going.
“For the industry to survive, we need to see that same level of support shown by the wider Australian community to our farmers and producers – the Agriculture: The Heart of Victoria dinner is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the efforts of Victoria’s agriculture industry and to ensure those efforts don’t go unnoticed,” he said.
In the lead up to the dinner, Mr Sheedy will be using his influence to bring rural issues to light with his brainchild, the ‘Country Game’ - an AFL battle between Essendon and Geelong to be played in honour of Australian farmers this Saturday.
“It’s all about recognising the contribution of agriculture to our community and celebrating the tireless commitment of our farmers,” Mr Sheedy said.
Now in its fourth year, the Agriculture: The Heart of Victoria dinner is the premier event on the Victorian agriculture social calendar, and will be held on Thursday, June 9 at Central Pier Docklands.
It is presented by the Victorian Farmers Federation and The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, in conjunction with major sponsor Coles.
Mr Sheedy will be in good company at the dinner with Australian swimming star Giaan Rooney as the MC, and Victorian Agriculture and Regional Development Minister Jaala Pulford, who will shed light on Victoria's booming agricultural industry and how the state government continues to support primary producers.
