If you logged on to Facebook today, chances are you saw the headline “Harrison Ford Explains Why He’s Moving to Ballarat, Australia.”
Well, sorry to let the air out of your balloon, Ballarat, but it ain’t happening.
The ‘Daily News 11’ website claimed the Hollywood megastar had announced plans to make away from the glitz and glamour and settle down in none other than our fair city.
However, not only is the story a complete fabrication, it can’t be spotted anywhere else on the internet.
Here’s why we know it’s fake:
- It only quotes “the magazine”. It never says which magazine in which he actually made the announcement.
- Harris Ford has never been to Ballarat (we think). And if he has, he certainly hasn’t been “a couple of times”.
- Identical stories can be found that claim Harrison Ford is moving to a number of places throughout the world. The stories are all exactly the same and only the name of the city changes (see below).

The scam could be a ploy to drive internet traffic to a certain website, intelligently targeting people all over the world to bring them online hits.
Or, it could simply be somebody sitting inside a dark room trying to formulate a hoax.
So, to everybody in Ballarat who thought you might’ve been able to rub shoulders with a Hollywood A-grader, we are sorry if you got your hopes up.
But then again, you shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet.
