SEBASTOPOL was unable to take advantage of its home green knowledge in the opening round of the Ballarat District Bowls Division Super Dome Series.
The Kookaburras have fielded two teams in the inaugural night series – held under the roof at Sebastopol Bowling Club – but suffered defeats in both western conference divisions on Thursday evening.
In the central division, Sebastopol Blue’s quartet of Will Matthews, Shayne Bromilow and Ian and Stuart Hedger went down to Webbcona’s Leah, Barry and Ben McArthur and Brett Mahoney in a tie-break after both teams won a set each.
The Sebastopol Gold side of Pat Birch, Donald Clark, Phillip Brough and John Copeman was beaten easily by Daylesford’s Leon Hedwards, Geoffrey Jenkin, Kevin Gibson, Pat Torpey, who won both sets in the goldfields division encounter.
Other round one winners across all divisions included Victoria, City Oval, Buninyong, Avenue, Central Wendouree and Learmonth.
Teams to play a total of five regular-season games before the three-week finals series begins on May 19.
