THE NORTH Ballarat Roosters were outclassed in their second round Victorian Football League clash with Essendon in Bendigo on Friday night, going down by 85 points.
Essendon were dominant in the opening term, holding the Roosters goalless for the 30 minutes to finish the quarter with a 40 point lead. The Roosters were unable to register a major until the 14 minute mark of the second quarter.
The Roosters fought gallantly in the latter half of the second term to keep the Bombers to just one goal for the quarter, but wasted opportunities in front of goal to still trail by 35 points at the main change.
The Bombers were again on the front foot at the start of the third term, booting five unanswered goals in the opening 15 minutes to blow the lead out past 10 goals.
While the Roosters were able to hit the scoreboard through James Keeble and Luke Keil in the final term their efforts were too little too late, with the Bombers prevailing 18.16.124 to the Rooster 5.9.39. Essendon’s Shaun McKernan led the goal kicking, bagging four majors.
