IS the man who has been a finalist in the worst actor awards on 11 occasions, including two Golden Raspberries, moving to Bendigo?
Well, according the internet he might just be.
That’s right, Bendigo was abuzz yesterday with “news” the one and only Adam Sandler was pulling up stumps and heading to our fair city to enjoy his twilight years.
And with the story coming from a website called Daily News 11, you just knew it was completely legit.
“In a huge surprise to everyone in Los Angeles, Hollywood actor Adam Sandler reveals in a new interview that he is moving to the Bendigo, Australia area,” the website exclaims.
Is it our poppetheads that caught his attention? Maybe the art gallery? Or even our interesting group of local councillors?
No, it was our lovely people!
“I’ve been to Bendigo a couple of times over the years and the people there are real… they’re genuine,” he was believed to say.
Oh really? That’s funny, it’s almost identical to what Brad Pitt said when he announced he was moving to tiny Bera, Kentucky.
Or when Harrison Ford and Justin Bieber shocked the world by saying they were moving to Ballarat and Wildwood, Missouri respectively.
In fact, it was exactly what all the Hollywood celebrities were saying.
Hoax checking website snopes.com picked up on the unusual stories as soon as they started to swirl around the internet at the end of February.
And unfortunately for the residents of the quiet boroughs – including Bendigo – they are all completely false.
“The queries appeared out of nowhere at around the same time, as if an exodus from Hollywood occurred en masse for some unstated reason,” the website states.
It could still be true. But, luckily or unluckily for some, it’s highly unlikely.
