A JOINT rail freight initiative will help ease pressure from some of the state’s busiest roads.
The state government will partner with Graincorp and will invest $8.5 million into upgrading and building new train loading and infrastructure along the soon to be upgraded Murray Basin Rail network.
The government says the network will allow an extra 500,000 tonnes of grain to be transported by rail.
This significant change will take trucks off the road and result in lower transportation costs to farmers.
Member for Wendouree Sharon Knight said the sginficant investment was needed to ensure the future growth of the area.
“We’re getting on with making the needed investments in schools, road and our rail network for our community to grow and prosper.”
