
FORMER North Ballarat Roosters player Lachlan Edwards has been drafted into the NFL by the New York Jets
The Jets picked up Edwards with the 235th overall selection the seventh round of the draft.
“Can't wait to get to work with the Jets.”
Edwards, who completed his three-year career at Sam Houston ranked as the Bearkats’ all-time leader with a 42.9-yard career average, later told the media:
“I’m super excited. I always thought something like this could happen.
“I’m not sure I expected it,” he said. “My parents called me from Australia to congratulate me. It’s a thrill.”
Edwards from Hastings on the Mornington Peninsula spent three years on the Roosters’ list in from 2011 – missing the first with a shoulder injury – after playing with Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup
With North Ballarat affiliated with AFL club North Melbourne, Edwards was unable to break into the senior line-up and spent his time at Eureka Stadium in the VFL development league.
Edwards, who attended Federation University while based in Ballarat, then made the move to Sam Houston State University in the.United States to pursue an NFL career.
He was an immediate success, being named an all-Southland Conference player. This took him to the NFL combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, and on to private workouts and the Sam Houston State University Pro Day in early April.
