HUNDREDS of keen cyclists turned up for Sunday’s Ballarat Autumn Day ride, enduring “horrific” head winds following torrential rains.
The annual BAD ride is a social event raising money for the Ballarat Specialist School, and offers 50km or 100km options for cyclists, with both routes passing through Miners Rest and then either onto Lake Burrumbeet or on through Weatherboard, Addington and Ercildoune.
Event co-ordinator Gary Bunn said 465 people registered for the ride, now in its 27th year. He said numbers were slightly down, given Saturday night’s thunderstorm.
“Some people were saying it was the hardest ride they’d done for some years, with sleet and hail out near Mt Misery,” he said.
