They mightn’t be the prettiest of canines, but real beauty is on the inside and the Australian bulldog has that in abundance.
Ballarat hosted the Aussie Bulldog Club of Australia for the first time on Sunday, with around 50 bulldogs and their owners venturing to Lake Wendouree for a friendly get together.
The day featured a number of raffles, with proceeds directed towards the Ballaarat Dog Obedience Club.
Bulldog breeder Kerrie Lee said there are usually two meet and greet events on the calendar each year.
“It’s a get-together for people to look at the breed and people come down from all over Melbourne and we’ve even got people from South Australia here today,” Ms Lee said.
“It’s mainly Australian bulldogs, but we’ll have a few ‘frenchies’ (French bulldogs) and British bulldogs as well.
“It’s great for new people who want to take a look at the breed.”
Ms Lee said the Australian bulldog is a relatively new breed that makes great family pets, and despite their fearsome looks, are as soft as butter.
