The 15-year old is collecting car, truck and solar panel batteries to help pay the way for his two friends and their team of carers to attend the 12th Nippon Agoonoree in Japan this August. Corey’s mother, Coral Loader, said the specialised camp was created for Scouts with special needs, with activities specifically designed for their needs - something she said can often be forgotten at traditional Scout camps.
“A lot of kids will never have the chance to go on camps,” she said.
“Corey struggled at the Jamboree because he couldn’t do the climbs, hill walks and hikes. It made him feel worthless.
“At Agoonoree the activities are specially built for special needs which means they can do things not usually in the easy basket.”
Money raised from the batteries will be used to purchase shirts and scarves, with any additional funds utilised to make the trip more enjoyable for the Scouts who are hoping to visit Disneyland and travel Japan while they’re there. Ms Loader said travelling with wheel chairs in Japan is expected to be difficult.
“(The funds will help) make it more comfortable for them, more enjoyable,” she said.
To donate your batteries call Ms Loader on 0438 187 882. Alternatively people can drop their batteries off at R&J Batteries in La Trobe Street and mention Corey’s name.
