Grade four Little Bendigo Primary School pupils Layla Scicluna and Taleah Irving needed to work on their counting and confidence.
So the duo hosted a Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday, doing a welcome speech to their guests and tallying up the $445 raised for the Cancer Council Victoria.
As part of their school independent learning unit, the girls also learnt about various types of cancer, particularly breast cancer.
“All the money raised (today) will go toward research and a cure for cancer,” Layla said.
“Heaps of people are going through different types of cancer,” Taleah added.
Teacher Janet Tuaine said the girls charged $5 for a morning tea seat, tallying the money up as it came into the school office while regularly going over their welcome speech.
“I was nervous (but) I practicised it a lot,” Taleah said.
“I’m really working on my confidence.”
About 50 people attended the morning tea, with the young pair easily reaching their goal of $400.
