Last year’s Ballarat Football Netball League A-grade runners-up, the Eastern Lions were beaten 42-33 in Saturday’s clash at City Oval.
Sunbury has slipped to third on the ladder following the result, while Redan is now fifth after squaring the win-loss ledger at 3-3.
The triumph is Redan’s second in succession and follows the victory against Darley from before the AFL Victoria Community Championships break.
First-year Redan coach Sheree Collins told The Courier her side led all day in what she believed was the girls’ best team performance of the campaign so far.
She pin-pointed Hayley Munro, for her “pearler” of a display through the mid-court, and Ruby Parry as leading contributors on the weekend.
Parry, a goaler, was playing her first game back from overseas travel and finished with 18 goals.
Collins is hoping to at least equal the side’s appearance in the finals from 2015, when it bombed out in the first week of playoffs.
“That’s the first ambition, but to be contenders for the flag is obviously the ultimate goal,” she said.
Collins, a former junior coach at Redan, said the current make-up of the senior side featured a mix of youth and experience.
...to be contenders for the flag is obviously the ultimate goal.

She said it has the ability to match it with the better sides in the competition on best form.
Redan has a game against Ballarat next weekend to plan for, while Sunbury should be able to bounce back to winning form in a fixture with Sebastopol.
Meanwhile, reigning premiers North Ballarat City and East Point kept their unbeaten starts to the campaign in tact with success on Saturday afternoon.
The Northies beat Darley by 18 goals and the Kangaroos were far too good for Melton South, prevailing 77-19.
East Point, which can rest up thanks to the bye next weekend, remains on top of the ladder courtesy of its big percentage, with North Ballarat City second.
Melton is one of four teams on 12 points following a four-goal win against Bacchus Marsh.
The Bloods sit eighth on the ladder, but just percentage behind fifth-placed Redan.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Lake Wendouree beat Sebastopol by 21 goals.
