Koderenko’s influence in the Kangaroos’ 76-point victory over Sebastopol was again substantial – enough to earn him five votes in the round eight encounter at the Eastern Oval on Saturday.
This takes him to 22 votes after polling in six of East Point’s seven games.
Koderenko is two votes ahead of Sunbury’s Alik Magin, who had a quiet day in a loss to Lake Wendouree.
Melton’s Jake Gleeson is in third position on 18 votes.
However, Gleeson’s opportunity to add to his tally will stall for a few rounds. He has taken a two-match set penalty after being reported for having struck Dan Colbert, of Redan.
Mitch Brockwell, also of Melton, will miss one match after accepting a set penalty for having struck an unknown player.
Redan’s Nathan Horbury has been a significant mover in the best player award after a late start to the season – moving to 10 votes against Melton – as has Damian Cupido from Bacchus Marsh.
