BALLARAT youngsters Harry Sharp and Nick Fidler ran their way to state title success at Bundoora Park on Saturday.
The Wendouree Athletic Club members claimed respective under-15 and under-16 boys races at the XCR'16 event, which doubled as the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships.
Sharp, a year seven student at St Patrick’s College, scored victory over the 4km trip in a time of 13.02min, while Fidler, who is in year nine at Ballarat Grammar, clocked 12.39min to remain undefeated in the XCR'16 series.
The Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships was used as a selection event for state teams that will compete at the national titles later this year.
While Fidler has been to the Australian Cross Country Championships a number of times, he will be joined by Sharp for the first time.
Fidler is the reigning national under-16 boys 2000m steeplechase champion and Sharp competed at this year’s Australian track and field championships in Perth over the 1500m and 3000m distances.
A selection committee was set to meet on Monday to finalise Athletics Victoria and School Sport Victoria squads that will race in the Australian Cross Country Championships.
These titles will be held in Canberra’s Stromlo Forest during August.
