VicRoads’ potential move to a Ballarat base remains up in the air.
Both VicRoads and the state government refused to provide details on an investigation into the viability of the move.
A VicRoads spokesperson said the process is ongoing.
A spokesperson from Roads Minister Luke Donnellan’s office said the formation of new transport body – Transport for Victoria – would not have any implications in the outcome.
“The former Liberal government promised to relocate the VicRoads office to Ballarat without a business case and any proper consultation,” the spokesperson said.
The body will co-ordinate VicRoads, but it’s unclear if it would be easier for the latter to remain in Melbourne.
Opposition transport spokesman David Hodgett said the government has been “cagey” about the investigation.
“People are still uncertain about it and it’s been 18 months, before we know it it will be two years.”
