BALLARAT Sovereigns will travel to Melbourne on Wednesday for what is arguably the toughest task in the Victorian Netball League – ladder leader Melbourne University Lightning.
Sovereigns have lost their past five games, registering just two wins for the season, but surprisingly ran Melbourne Uni to within six goals, going toe to toe with them for three quarters, in its round eight meeting earlier this season.
Ballarat will be looking to bounce back after what was a disappointing result against Peninsula Waves, going down by four goals, in what it viewed as a winnable match.
Inconsistency has rued the club this season and while it showed improvement on that front against the Waves, there is still much room for growth.
In what has been a development season for the ninth-placed Sovereigns, Wednesday’s clash with such a quality opponent is sure to offer the young team an opportunity to challenge themselves against the best and further develop the cohesion within the side.
