The day at Eureka Stadium will also raise money for the foundation’s work to end men’s violence against women.
The proceeds will support primary prevention initiatives in schools, workplaces and the broader community.
White Ribbon ambassador Simone O’Brien will toss the coin before the senior game.
North Ballarat City operations and administration coordinator Lee Prentice said O’Brien suffered horrific injuries in domestic violence while living in Queensland.
She said O’Brien had overcome physical and mental injuries to find the strength to come back from such a horrible incident.
The White Ribbon foundation says on average one woman is killed every week in Australia as a result of intimate partner violence.
Anyone experiencing violence or suspecting someone else should phone 1800 RESPECT for advice and support or in an emergency call the police on 000.
THE new BFNL under-12 girls’ football competition begins on Sunday.
The inaugural four-team season will run for seven weeks, including a finals day to determine the premier.
East Point will meet Lake Wendouree at White Flat at 10am and Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League play Redan at Creswick’s Doug Dean Reserve at 11am.
Youth girls and VWFL open aged matches will follow at each venue to showcase the female game.
AFL Goldfields commercial and regional operations manager Aaron Nunn said this was a huge milestone in the progression of female football in the region.
“We’re working hard with clubs to develop a sustainable pathway where females can commence their involvement in football in our Auskick programs and continue their participation for as long as they like in competition structures that have been created to foster development further.
“We’re thrilled that the Ballarat FNL has committed to providing another level of competition that will help bridge the gap between Auskick and youth girls football.”
