Ty Ranger, 23, has been charged with attempted murder.
He was also charged with intentionally causing serious injury, false imprisonment, child stealing and assault in November after an alleged stabbing of a five-year-old girl at Mitchell Park.
Ranger appeared at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
Magistrate Kay Robertson ordered Ranger to appear in the County Court for a date which was yet to be set in October.
The court was previously told Ranger, who has cerebral palsy, has significant physical disabilities.
The decision by Ms Robertson followed a committal mention earlier this year.
