The new station, located at 1 Mirelle Drive, Winter Valley, will primarily service the communities on the western side of Ballarat.
It will also complement existing policing services to the greater Ballarat community.
The 16 hour station will work in conjunction with the already existing Ballarat Police Station, which operates a 24 hour counter service and the Ballarat North Police Station.
The new station will house uniform members and other operational units including the Proactive Policing Unit.
Superintendent Andrew Allen said the new station would significantly improve police service delivery in a growth area of Ballarat.
“It is important for police to have a presence in this location while residential, community and commercial development is still underway,” Superintendent Allen said.
Counter service at Ballarat West will begin operating from 9.00 am today. From now it will be open between 9am and 9pm each day.
