An expanded Super Dome Series bowls will kick-off at the Sebastopol Bowling Club this Thursday night following the success of the inaugural season earlier this year.
Thirty-two teams from 22 clubs will take part in the second season, which has been divided up into two separate playing times to ensure all matches are completed on one night.
More-than 120 bowlers from throughout the Ballarat District Bowls Division will take part in the seven-week regular season, double that of the first season which concluded in June.
Super Dome Series operations manager Scot Nicholson said after seeing the success of the first series, almost-all of the clubs within the BDBD jumped on board.
“It’s amazing to see it double in entries and it’s great to see participation grow,” Nicholson said. “It’s an alternative to regular bowls and it’s a great chance to get some practice in before pennant season.”
The tournament has been split up into an eastern and western conference, with conferences then split into two eight-side divisions.
The top three sides from each division will automatically progress to the eight-side conference finals, with the two remaining places being filled by the two remaining sides with the best winning percentages.
Finals will be played across two weeks, with two finals to be played consecutively on each night.
Reigning champion Webbcona has entered two sides into the spring season, as has fellow grand-finalist Ballan.
BDBD president Sandra Chapman encouraged people to come and view the fast-paced, aggressive incarnation of the sport.
