It’s not every day Thor and his mighty hammer find a wormhole above Wendouree Primary School.
But the superhero managed to land in the Howitt Street school’s assembly hall – along with Wolverine, Darth Vader, Green Lantern, Grandma Poss, Slinky Malinki and Dr Seuss.
But when it’s the annual Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week parade, every favourite literary character comes to life.

Principal Christine Branagh said, while this year’s Book Week has an Australia! Story Country theme, the pupils instead dressed as a character that has engaged them in their reading this year.
Throughout the day, the school’s 150 pupils will be put in multi-age groups to do a range of activities, including fun-based science, literacy and technology units.

“The activities are all based on the books shortlisted this year,” Ms Branagh said.
Among the 30 books shortlisted in four categories is Clare Wright’s We Are The Rebels – The Women and Men Who Made Eureka.
