Exploring Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War helped Ballarat High School student Laura Benney develop a greater understanding of modern warfare.
The 17-year-old student researched the Australian Army Training Team and the diving team three for an exploratory essay that saw her announced a Victorian winner of the Honouring Australian Vietnam Veterans secondary schools’ competition.
“I explored the way troupes interacted with the local population and helped each other,” Laura said.
“The Australian Army Training Team worked with South Vietnamese people to train them to be good role models.”
Laura travelled with other winners to Canberra to attend the national commemorative service marking Vietnam Veterans Day.
