Ward said he has only heard of Comelli’s ideas - released in a story in The Courier on Thursday – “anecdotally over the past week”.
Comelli has floated a split in the 18-club football and netball competition, with 10 in conference A and eight in conference B.
While stressing it is just his personal thoughts, Comelli likes the prospects of the system, which would see teams from both divisions fight out a combined finals series.
The league’s board will meet with club presidents next Wednesday night to discuss the plan further, others that may arise and the potential for change within the competition.
AFL Goldfields is currently running its own review into the senior football competitions within the region, which Ward says will involve heavy consultation with CHFL clubs.
Ward said the review is being conducted under AFL Victoria Country rules.
"Any recommendations arrived at, provided the due process is followed and once they've been endorsed by the (AFL Goldfields) commission, they are binding,” Ward told The Courier.
"Obviously, if any individual club does not like the recommendations, they do have the right of appeal to AFL Victoria.
"We'll be engaging with every club. There's three stages of consultation throughout our review, so there's going to be every opportunity for every club to put forward their point of view and what they see is going to give them the best chance of sustainability.”
