Stephen Sondheim’s richly dark Into the Woods has thrilled audiences on Broadway and been turned into a hit Hollywood film. Now, the Arts Academy’s graduating music theatre students are bringing it to Ballarat.
The story involves a baker, his wife, their quest to begin a family, and the witch who has placed a curse on them.
Emily Roberts, who plays Little Red Riding Hood, said the production was the final performance for third year students.
She said the next production would be the graduating year’s showcase in November, which would again travel to Sydney in a bid to attract agents. Ms Roberts said last year, about 50 per cent of students gained an agent – an unusually high proportion.
Into the Woods will be held October 1 to 8 at the Helen Macpherson Smith Theatre.
