Shaw is in Ballarat for the 2016-17 Victorian Summer Baseball League season, where he boosts the pitching options for the division two firsts team.
The 27-year-old is a graduate of Mount St Joseph University, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was secured by the club via a baseball recruitment website.
According to his online bio, Shaw spent most of his three years at the university as a corner infielder, but also enjoyed time on the mound.
He has played in the Puerto Rico Instructional Baseball League and most recently in Austria’s second division with Feldkirch Cardinals.
Brewers committee member Neil Phillips said Shaw is a classy addition to the club and replaces last season’s import Seth Haehl.
The Brewers take on Bonbeach in round two action next Saturday.
