It is understood a man was injured when another man confronted him in the store.
The Sebastopol man was interviewed by police on Wednesday night and has been released.
He is expected to be charged on summons.
An RSPCA spokeswoman was aware of the assault but said the organisation would not comment on the issue because it was a police matter.
The Courier understands the victim sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised.
The RSPCA would not say if this was a common occurrence or if increased security would be implemented in the future.
