The catch: no workshops, no jumpshots again. Participating youth, aged 12 to 18, must again complete compulsory life skills workshops after a hot nutritious meal before stepping out for tournament play. Players are returned home by midnight.
Midnight Basketball Ballarat chairman Mark Valentine said the city’s pilot program in term two was a strong success, with players calling for more sessions.
The program aims to build confidence, skills and teamwork among at-risk youth.
Sessions are each Friday night at St Patrick’s College. Attendance is free. Singlets and transport home are provided. To register or volunteer: midnightbasketball.org.au/Ballarat.
