Former Ballarat textile artist Sarah Bell Smith is crafting her way to success in the Adelaide arts scene.
One of six members from the South Australian textile artists group known as SAlt group, Smith’s work is inspired by her lift, identity, relationships, personal experiences and love of nature.
The group will exhibit its work at this year’s Craft and Quilt Fair Adelaide in November, inviting viewers to explore, ponder and be inspired with its collection, Inner Journeys.
South Australia is known for its strong crafting culture, with SAlt using the textiles medium to learn and discover more about themselves and share knowledge.
Smith’s practice is to research extensively first, before photographing and documenting ideas, as well as drawing and creating colour swatches and samples.
Her bold and bright work is created in response to various themes based around the concept of “journeys” and is aimed to challenge and influence the viewer’s thinking.
