Ballarat Pride’s Georgia Cann will lead the way for the Globe Hotel Kookaburras next season after being appointed director of coaching at the Ballarat Football Netball League club.
The 26-year-old goaler, one of the most high profile netballers in the region, will also boost Sebastopol’s on-court stocks as player-coach at Marty Busch Reserve.
Sebastopol president John Lyon said the appointment was a massive morale boost for the club as it continues to rebuild its netball department.
“The girls are are so excited about it,” Lyon said. “We are all excited with what Georgia brings to the club.
“Our view at the club is the netball is just as important as the football.
“We’ve worked hard to put strategies in place to move forward with football and now we want to do the same with our netball.”

Sebastopol endured a tough year on the court this year, finishing 11th with just one win.
Cann, who leaves Central Highlands club Dunnstown after four seasons, said it will be a challenge to guide the young Kookaburras up the ladder, but that was part of the appeal of taking the role.
“It’s definitely a challenge but that’s exactly what I was looking for,” she said yesterday.
“I can’t wait to work with these girls. They are enthusiastic and just need someone to help them on the right path.”
Cann said she has been coached by exceptional coaches at Pride and would apply that experience at her new club.
Sebastopol will begin netball pre-season training next month.
