Golf Australia championships manager Adam Power says Ballarat is well placed to attract more major events.
Power said Ballarat Golf Club and wider city community had proven itself to be a perfect venue during the Australian Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
He said there was nothing but praise for Ballarat – the golf course and the city’s amenities.
Power said Ballarat lent itself to events of this kind. "It’s excellent.” He said Ballarat was well placed for national events, being close to Melbourne Airport, and having a course of the standard that the Ballarat club offered.
The five-day championship attracted 92 players.
He said while this championship would go to the Sunshine Coast next year as part of a rotation, Ballarat would certainly come under consideration for other events.
Power was particularly impressed by the way the course recovered from extensive rain on the back of the national futures tournament a week earlier.
This was the first event run by Golf Australia at the venue.
