Tallent will make a special guest address for Hepburn Health’s annual general meeting later this month.
Hepburn Health chief executive officer Glenn Campbell said the evening would be a great chance to meet one of the world’s top race walkers, who hails from Dean, while also learning more about the health service.
“Jared has set a tremendous example to so many people, because he works hard to continually improve his health and live a positive life,” Mr Campbell said.
Tallent was promoted to Olympic gold for the 50-kilometre walk in the 2012 London Games after Russian Sergey Kirdyapkin was deemed guilty of doping. Tallent captured silver in Rio.
In 2008, Jared Tallent became Australia’s first male track and field athlete in more than a century to secure two medals at a single Olympics, when he won bronze and silver at Beijing. He holds the men’s world record for the 50km walk.
Tallent continues to strive for fitness challenges outside his pet discipline, like completing the New York Marathon earlier this month.
Mr Campbell said that Jared’s talk would emphasise the importance of healthy living, especially for the region where he grew up.
“This is what Hepburn Health is all about,” Mr Campbell said. “We promote active and healthy lives, and help people across Hepburn Shire to take steps which can prevent illness.
Hepburn Health will host the evening at Hepburn Springs Golf Club on November 28 from 6.15pm with an open access board meeting from 4.30pm. Confirm attendance: 5321 6555.
