Thomson has impressed in his two Cricket Australia Futures League matches averaging 64 runs, including two half-centuries.
The young gun will get a great taste of world-class cricket as the Proteas look to continue their momentum ahead of the third test at Adelaide Oval on November 24.
Thomson’s selection follows the promising form of fellow East Ballarat cricket club prodigy Matthew Short, who captained a Cricket Australia XI against South Africa in the lead-up to its three-test series with Australia.
East Ballarat will welcome back Short to the club on Thursday as he returns to help out with training at Russell Square. He will be joined by Hobart Hurricane’s Jake Reed and it is hoped Thomson will also make an appearance in what is a great coup for the club to potentially have three rising cricket prospects in its midst.
