Dan Wehrung and Chris Dwyer will serve as joint senior coaches and lead the Cats into the 2017 Central Highlands Football League season.
Wehrung, who joined the club from Lake Wendouree ahead of the 2014 campaign, has stepped up from his assistant role, while Dwyer has held junior coaching jobs at Newlyn and helped out its senior team from the bench during the past two seasons.
Dwyer, the brother of club president Simon, is a premiership player with the Cats, where he is also a team of the decade member.
Wehrung will serve as an on-field leader on game day, with Dwyer to take the reins from the sidelines.
The pair takes charge of a Newlyn side that was coached by Kal Young across the past three seasons.
Young finished up with the Cats at the end of the 2016 campaign and has since committed – along with brother and former Newlyn forward Will – to North Ballarat City for next season.
Former Cats player Tom Inverarity, who retired in 2014 as a result of significant head injuries, has also been confirmed as an off-field assistant coach.
Newlyn announced the appointments via Facebook on Tuesday afternoon.
“Dan has shown himself to be one of the great Newlyn players since arriving in 2014,” the post read.
“His selfless approach to football coupled with experience from his North Ballarat Roosters days put him (in) great stead to make a successful leap into the coaching ranks.”
The post said that Dwyer’s “knowledge of the league and our players will compliment Dan’s on field role”.
Newlyn’s appointment leaves Carngham-Linton as the only club in the league still without a senior coach for 2017.
