The Wildlife Rescue Emergency Service is urging the public not to feed or attempt to catch an injured duck spotted on Lake Wendouree.
A passerby had concerns for the duck when she saw a red fishing float and line attached to its leg and notified the wildlife emergency service.
The passerby also noticed it wasn’t feeding as well as the other ducks.
While the duck is yet to be rescued, it can still swim and fly.
WRES secretary Cherie Reid said the organisation hoped the duck would be rescued before Springfest.
“It is very net shy so i think it has been chased a number of times by people trying to catch it,” Ms Reid said.
“We are hoping to catch it and clear the twine and lure from its foot before Sunday… all the people around will probably not help.”
She said volunteers would keep an eye on it and feed it during the day.
