The Grapes Hotel on Grant Street ceased trading just this week, less than two months after the Queen’s Head Hotel in Ballarat East closed its doors.
Specialist hotel broker Chris Foley said The Grapes Hotel former management had been struggling before the pub’s closure on Wednesday.
Mr Foley confirmed those publicans had moved on. “It’s fair to say the hotel has been struggling recently and the owner’s intention is to re-open it not too far into the New Year, renovated up to a competitive standard with other hospitality outlets in Ballarat.”
Queen’s Head Hotel, which closed under a cloud in late October, will also be revamped, Mr Foley said.
The 109-year-old pub will reopen with a new leasee-operator as a “brighter, more vibrant style of food and bev hotel”.
“It’s being upgraded with internal refurbishment and some minor alterations.”
The Atlantic on Skipton Street will reopen with a new publican as a hotel restaurant in the first quarter of 2017.
